It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

Every year, when winter break came round, Santana and Brittany had their certain traditions. One of these traditions was baking. While Santana wasn't much of a baker, Brittany always seemed to enjoy it, but she did have a little trouble getting the recipes straight -- which was where Santana came in.

This year, they weren't on the best of terms. They were friends, even after Santana's freak-out during their duets challenge in Glee, but things still weren't quite the same. Santana liked to think they were getting better, but truthfully, Brittany spent a lot more time with Artie outside of school these days than she did Santana. Santana was hoping that winter break would be her chance to set things right and, if she was lucky, get Brittany to ditch Wheels and come back to her.

Wearing sweatpants and a long-sleeved shirt she wouldn't mind getting dirty, Santana made her way to Brittany's about ten minutes after the blonde called. She was excited and walked right into the Pierce house (after so many years, it was like a second home) when she arrived, calling out, "Britt!" as she moved into the living room to crash on the couch.

Santana felt Brittany tense in her arms, but before she could pull away, not wanting Brittany to feel awkward, the other girl had relaxed. Santana smiled, pressing close to Brittany, her heart pounding. "I know, B. But I haven't been here," Santana explained. This wasn't entirely what she meant, but it was true. They'd hardly seen each other outside of school since their fight.

Brittany let Santana pull her closer, her arms wrapped tightly around her. She'd missed this a lot. She'd missed Santana. And the brunette was right, she hadn't been there. Not since she'd freaked out on Brittany and then picked Mercedes as her duet partner. Something that had hurt Brittany more than she would admit. "It's okay, San." The blonde replied, finally returning the hug she was being given. "I've been super busy too." She had been too, with Artie. "But you're here now!"

Santana nodded, her jaw clenching. She'd seen how busy Brittany had been with Artie, and she was jealous -- not that she'd admit to it. Brittany had always been hers, but now she was with Wheels and Santana was ready to kill him. Even after she'd badmouthed her best friend just to get Artie to back off, he'd gone back to her! But Puck had been back, so Santana had forced herself to focus on him and let Brittany be with Artie. She'd given up... but now she'd gotten her second wind. No more giving up.

"I'm here now," she agreed. "What kind of cookies do you wanna make?"

A bright smile lit up Brittany's whole face when Santana mentioned the cookies again. "We should totally make Santa cookies! And snowman and..." She paused to think for a minute, trying to determine what other cookies she wanted to make. "Oh! And...gingerbread men cookies!" The blonde was seriously excited about the prospect of making all these cookies. She was like a kid when it came to stuff like this. Well, she was like a kid when it came to a lot of stuff actually. "Maybe Christmas trees too?"

Santana grinned when Brittany smiled. God, she was so beautiful when she smiled. Hell, she was beautiful all the time. "We've got the rest of the day and all night together, B. We can make all those cookies," Santana said confidently. She'd make the girl a damn cake if it meant spending all this time with her.

Brittany smiled even bigger and clapped her hands together. "Yay! So, you're...spending the night too, like we do every year?" She asked, curiously. While Santana had agreed to come bake cookies, she hadn't been sure if they would be doing the full tradition or just the baking. There were other traditions that usually went along with the baking and the sleepover, but she had Artie now, so that would be totally cheating. But, it was Santana and she was super hot, Brittany wasn't sure she would be able to resist falling back on old habits. In fact, she wasn't sure she wanted to resist.

Santana nodded, then raised an eyebrow. Wait, did that mean she shouldn't? Normally, when she spent the night, it kind of inevitably led to sex. But Brittany had Wheels... but since when did Santana care about that? "Unless you don't want me to..." Much as she would gladly help Brittany end her relationship with Artie, it seemed like the blonde really liked him, so she'd stay away if Brittany wanted her to. Even if that meant cutting their tradition in half.

Brittany frowned, her brows knitting together as she looked at the other girl. Why wouldn't she want her to stay? "Why wouldn't I?" She asked. "You always do. It wouldn't be like, tradition if we just baked cookies and you left." She gave Santana a grin. "I want you to stay." Looking down, she lifted her eyes back up to meet Santana's. "I miss all that stuff."

Santana was surprised to hear Brittany say that. She shouldn't have been, really -- Brittany had always been open about her feelings with Santana, and the weight of those emotions were what had led to their fight. Santana touched Brittany's cheek, looking like she wanted to say something, but she held her tongue. "I'll stay. Let's go bake, B."

Brittany leaned into Santana's hand, it was habit, this tenderness between them. She waited to see what it was the brunette wanted to say, but instead she just said she'd stay and mentioned the baking again. "Okay." Brittany nodded, pulling away and standing up. "Let's go!" She smiled again, heading for the kitchen where she'd laid out some ingredients. Grabbing the aprons she'd also laid out, she handed one to her friend. "Here! We have aprons too, so we don't get stuff all over us." Sliding hers on, it was covered in Santa faces and she grinned, looking down at it. "I made us a Christmas CD too so we can totally be like, in the spirit!"

Santana looked at the aprons and was relieved to see Brittany grab the Santa faces one. The one left had candy canes all over it, which she supposed was better than Santa faces, and Santana yanked it on over her head. When Brittany mentioned the CD, Santana chuckled a little. "Sounds great, Britt," she said sincerely. She liked the holidays -- presents were required, and she spent 80 percent of the vacation with Brittany.

Brittany beamed when Santana told her it sounded great. Of course it did, she was totally into the Christmas spirit probably more than any average person. Lucky for her, Santana supported it and not only that, but she encouraged it as well. In fact, this year, the whole Glee Club had gone with her to see Santa! Even though he couldn't give Brittany what she really wanted for Christmas, he'd given almost the same thing. The Transformer thing for Artie that allowed him to walk.

Though Santana really did enjoy Brittany's Christmas spirit, she thought The Pierces letting Brittany continue to believe in Santa Claus was a little odd. It brought out a very childlike side of Brittany that made Santana feel like a pedophile. However, she did like when Brittany would refer to her as Santana Claus -- though she'd never, ever admit it and still made faces whenever Brittany did it. She remembered when they'd made that connection when they were little and how much fun they'd had with it.

Santana thought about it. They were making sugar cookies, and Brittany wanted all different shapes. The recipes didn't differ at all, it just depended on the cookie cutter. Which, after a little digging, Santana found. "Do you wanna do one shape at a time or all different ones?" she asked.

Brittany got a few more things out of the refrigerator that they would need to bake the cookies. She wasn't sure she was getting all the right things, but she was still making effort. She should've asked the cricket that reads to her sometimes to read the recipe to her last night! Then she would totally know everything she needed. Maybe. If she could remember it all.

Closing the door of the refrigerator, she turned to look at Santana and saw that she'd found all the cookie cutters they would need. "All different ones!" She exclaimed. "It's super fun that way." She nodded, looking at the ingredients again. She was totally forgetting something. "Do we need mayonnaise? I can't remember."

Santana tilted her head, giving Brittany a confused look. They'd made these cookies for years, and they'd never used mayonnaise before. Then again, that was her Brittany. Beautiful and kind but not exactly the brightest. "No, baby. That probably wouldn't taste good."

Brittany looked really confused for a minute, like she was trying to think about that. She could've swore they used mayonnaise before. But maybe not. Santana would definitely know. She always remembered stuff like that. Brittany wasn't good at remembering stuff sometimes. A lot of times actually. "Oh. Are you sure? I thought we did." Shrugging, she nodded. "But okay. If it won't taste good, we shouldn't use it."

Grabbing a bowl from the cabinet, she set it down on the counter before grabbing some of the measuring cups they would need. Standing on her tiptoes, she got down the bag of flour and a few other ingredients she hadn't gotten out yet. "Do you want to mix the stuff up? But I totally get to do the shapes!" She grinned, opening the bag of flour.

"I'm sure," Santana confirmed. Mayonnaise and cookies really didn't sound like a good combination. She started measuring out the right ingredients and pouring them into the mixing bowl. "B, can you crack two eggs and put them in the bowl for me?" she asked, grabbing the set of teaspoons and a bottle of vanilla extract.

"Okay." Brittany said, grabbing two eggs from the refrigerator. That's totally what she forgot! Carefully, she knocked one egg against the side of the bowl Santana was mixing things up in and broke the egg, dumping the contents in. She followed suit with the second egg and smiled proudly. "I didn't even get the shell in there this time!" She laughed, remembering years before when she had a lot of difficulty cracking the eggs. Thankfully, Santana had been patient with her.

Santana let out a relieved sigh and clapped her hands. "Good job, babe," she chuckled. The first few years of this tradition had been spent reminding Brittany that shells did not go in when the egg was cracked. Digging the shells out of the mixture was not at all a fun job. She poured in the vanilla and set the bowl in the mixer.

Brittany smiled even bigger, obviously proud of herself when Santana clapped, telling her she did a good job. She'd be lying if she said she hadn't missed the pet names. Along with everything else that came along with their "relationship" or whatever it was called. Brittany had obviously wanted more, but Santana had panicked and that was why they were in the place they were in now.

She watched as Santana put the bowl in the mixer, reaching over to press the button. Accidentally, however, she pressed the wrong one, making the beaters go way too fast. The ingredients in the bowl started flinging out, all over both of them. Brittany screamed, trying to press the button to stop it, but laughing too hard to succeed.

Santana had moved to grab the cookie sheets they would be using and turned back just in time to see Brittany reaching out to press a button. "Brittany, no!" she called out, but her attempt to stop the blonde was in vain. "Shit!" she said, a little irritated, but by the time she'd slowed the beaters, she was laughing along with Brittany.

"What have I told you about touching things? You have cookie dough all over your face now." The words were completely teasing; she wasn't angry, though she wasn't looking forward to having to clean up all this mess. She wrapped her arms around Brittany's waist to draw her closer and leaned up, licking some dough off Brittany's cheek.

Brittany's eyes went wide when Santana yelled, but when she started laughing, the blonde resumed her own laughter. It was nice, to laugh like this with Santana. She'd really missed their friendship above all else. They always had so much fun together.

Her lips pursed out in a pout when Santana reminded her about touching things. But before she could respond, the brunette wrapped her arms around Brittany's waist, pulling her close, licking dough from her cheek. A shiver ran up the blonde's spine and she bit her bottom lip, her eyes meeting Santana's as she pulled back, but made no move to let her go. "I didn't mean to." She said softly, making no move to back away either.

Santana rubbed the dough of Brittany's face with her thumbs, gazing into blue eyes silently. She hadn't thought through what she was doing -- she'd just acted. "Let me handle the mixer from now on, okay?" she said softly.

Brittany held Santana's gaze, unmoving as she stood there, with the girl's arms still wrapped around her waist. Her heart was racing in her chest and she licked her lips unconsciously. She really, really wanted to kiss her right now. But she had Artie to think about and before it would've never mattered, but he was different. But it was Santana and rules never applied when it came to her. "Okay." She said, nodding slowly. "You totally have some on you too." Brittany laughed, reaching up to wipe some cookie dough from the Latina's cheek with her thumb. Sticking her thumb in her mouth, she grinned again. "You taste really super good." She teased, not even realizing the double meaning of her words.

Santana swore her heart stopped when Brittany licked her lips like that. Her gaze moved from Brittany's eyes and remained transfixed on Brittany's mouth. She felt her hold body tingle, urging her to make a move, but she restrained herself. This wasn't going to happen like that. She wasn't going to jump Brittany after barely an hour alone with her. Maybe later...

Santana shook her and pulled away at Brittany's words. She tasted really good... God, the blonde probably didn't even realize how that could be taken. "Almost ready, then we've gotta let it chill for a little while before we cut the shapes," she said, checking the mixer.
